SENIORS: SCHEDULE FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS |
COMMUNICATION IN THE WORKPLACE This is a unit which deals with you as a member of the world of work, rather than of the academic environment. Most of you have had jobs or are currently employed and may have gotten those jobs in a much more casual manner than this process involves. However, recent projections by economists indicate that in your future, you will change jobs at least seven times! This unit is designed to prepare you for those changes which will involve applying for jobs and undergoing interviews.
Step One: Fill out the worksheet at home where you have access to the necessary phone numbers and addresses. Use this link for school phone numbers and addresses. Step Two: Choose an objective that matches a job you might actually apply for one day, one that matches your job or volunteer experience. Note that every time an applicant applies for a different type of job, he or she will revise his resume to showcase different talents! Step Three: Choose a resume format and follow it, creating your own resume.
Read the article about Jobs of the Future. In your notebook, list the skills he believes employers of the present and future will look for. Look closely for the skills that employers are currently looking for. As you write your resume and letter of application, try to highlight your own experiences that show these skills. Step One: Choose a job listed on the following link. Step Two : Fill out the form in which you brainstorm what skills you have that would qualify you for the job. Step Four: A second sample letter with specific directions of what to include can be found here. Step Five: Write a cover letter of application for the job you've chosen. Make sure the format is that of the example in Step Three or Step Four above. Step Six. Turn in: 1) your brainstorm form 2) the cover letter |
